The White Sox called it a year for Andrew Benintendi, placing him on the 10-day injured list with left Achilles tendinitis. Even though the move is retroactive for Sept. 21, the IL stint will still carry through the remaining six games on the schedule, so that little bit of accounting didn’t provide a benefit beyond historical accuracy.
Taking his place is Corey Julks, who spent 11 days on the active roster at the beginning of August before being designated for assignment. He cleared waivers and had the ability to opt for free agency since the White Sox had outrighted him already this calendar year, but he accepted the assignment to Charlotte, where he played well enough to merit consideration for such an opportunity as this one. In fact, he’s been fine for both the major league team and the Triple-A one:
