A 26-year-old man was in good condition after he was shot outside the popular Wrigleyville bar Murphy’s Bleachers on Thursday evening, according to Chicago police.
A person is in custody and police said Friday the “investigation is ongoing.”
According to police, the man was at a table outside the bar, located on the 900 block of West Waveland Avenue, just before 7 p.m. when a fight broke out between two groups of young people. The victim said he heard gunshots and ran inside the bar, before he realized that he had been shot, according to police.
Detectives later recovered video of two people shooting into the crowd before running away to the north. One of the shooters wore black pants, a black sweatshirt and white sneakers and the other wore a gray hoodie, black shorts and black sneakers, according to police. Both were estimated to be between 15 and 20 years old.
Shortly afterward, Town Hall (19th) District officers detained several teenagers allegedly involved in the shooting after finding them on a Red Line train. They later said that one person of interest was in custody. Detectives and evidence technicians found 30 shell casings at the scene of the shooting.
Officers also recovered a gun when they detained the teenagers on the train, police said.
The man was taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Belmont Area detectives were investigating the shooting, police said.
