Paul Konerko’s son has made his college decision.
Owen Konerko, a top-ranked player in the Class of 2027, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan on September 25, sharing the news across his personal social media accounts.
Konerko, 17, primarily played third base for Cactus Shadows High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, though he also appeared as a first baseman, outfielder, and right-handed pitcher. According to Prep Baseball Report, he ranked as Arizona’s top third baseman and the state’s fourth-best high school player as of May 28, 2025. The publication also listed him as the nation’s No. 10 third baseman and No. 169 overall player.
Known for his above-average raw power and bat speed, Konerko received the following scouting report during a preseason workout:
Owen Konerko, a 2027 two-way prospect and corner infielder from Cactus Shadows High School, delivered a standout performance during the workout day portion of Preseason All State event. Known for his high-level bat speed and serious raw power, Konerko consistently posted exit velocities in the hundreds, peaking at an impressive 103.5 mph. His display of power included numerous towering shots over the left-center field wall, turning heads throughout the event. Konerko carried that momentum into gameplay, driving a triple off the right-center field wall, further solidifying his offensive prowess. With his ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball, Konerko has established himself as one of Arizona’s premier prospects in the 2027 class.

Baseball excellence runs in the family, though Owen will be the first to play collegiately. Paulie, who signed a letter of intent with Arizona State University, never played for the school as he made the jump straight from high school when he was drafted 13th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994. He ultimately turned in a successful 18-year MLB career, spending 16 of those with the White Sox, where he became one of the most respected players in franchise history.
Over his career, the captain slashed .279/.354/.486 with 439 home runs, 1,412 RBIs, and a 28.0 bWAR. Paulie was a pivotal member of the South Siders’ 2005 postseason run, earning ALCS MVP honors before hitting a grand slam in Game 2 of the World Series. The White Sox unveiled a statue of his likeness on the left field concourse in 2014, and retired his No. 14 jersey the following year.
With his father’s legacy as an inspiration, Owen will soon have the chance to write his own story in Ann Arbor.
