Two of the White Sox’s top prospects will get a chance to showcase their talent in front of a national audience in a couple of weeks.
The 2025 NL and AL All-Star Futures Games rosters were announced today, and both LHP Noah Schultz and OF Braden Montgomery have been named to the AL roster to represent the loaded Chicago WHite SOx farm system.
Noah Schultz has been the unquestioned top prospect in the White Sox farm system for the last couple of years now, and has done little to cause any doubt about his status at the top of the rankings. In his third full season since being drafted in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft, Schultz held a 3.34 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 56.2 innings at the Double-A level before earning a promotion to Triple-A Charlotte.
While his performance hasn’t been quite up to his standards in his two starts since the promotion, his struggles can be explained away when considering adjusting to an MLB baseball and the club challenging him to rely more on his secondary stuff that he is still working to develop, per Brian Bannister on X.
Still, Schultz has maintained his propensity to miss bats even while stepping out of his comfort zone. At this rate, it is not out of the question that the 6’10 lefty could be pitching in Chicago by the end of this season.
Montgomery, who was acquired from the Red Sox in the Garrett Crochet trade, has exceeded expectations in his first minor league season. He dominated the Low-A level through 18 games and quickly earned a promotion to High-A Winston-Salem. There, he has hit 7 home runs and currently holds a .795 OPS and a 129 wRC+.
After his final collegiate season was cut short due to an ankle injury, his stock dipped a bit, and he ended up falling to the Red Sox at the 12th overall pick. It would have been understandable if he had gotten off to a slow start, but he has had a fantastic season at the plate while splitting time in the field at CF and RF. With his production, a promotion to Double-A could be in the cards soon, setting him up for a potential 2026 MLB debut.
The MLB All-Star Futures Games will be played on July 12 at 6:00 PM Eastern Time at Truist Park in Atlanta, GA. Fans can watch the game on MLB.tv, MLB.com, or through the MLB app.
