Miguel Vargas’ recent hot stretch has earned him AL Player of the Week honors. The announcements were made during the afternoon on Monday.
This marks the first career honor for Vargas, who becomes the first White Sox player since Luis Robert Jr. on June 26, 2023 to earn the recognition. He’s also the first infielder since José Abreu won on May 31, 2021.
The 25-year-old owned a .417 batting average (10-for-24) with four homers, nine RBI, two doubles, five runs scored, a 1.000 slugging percentage, and a .423 on-base percentage against the Reds and Cubs. Vargas’ most notable performance in that span came against the Cubs on Friday, as the third baseman went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs, three RBI and a double, tying his career-high of four hits. His three homers and five RBI in the Crosstown Classic against the Cubs marked the most by a White Sox player in a three-game series since Jake Burger also had three homers and five RBI in a three-game set with Baltimore in April 2023.
Vargas will look to remain host as the White Sox play host to the Seattle Mariners to open up the week.
