One of the game’s best hitters is seeking a coaching opportunity for the 2026 season.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, one-time White Sox player Manny Ramirez has reached out to all 30 MLB teams to inquire about coaching opportunities. Eyeing a role as a hitting coach specifically, Ramirez’s agent Hector Zepeda says “[Manny] wants to bring his greatness to teach the young guys.”
Ramirez, 53, has no prior MLB coaching experience but boasts a resume that speaks for itself. In 19 major league seasons, he slashed .312/.411/.585 with 555 home runs, 1,831 RBI, and a .996 OPS. The slugger is known for his clutch moments and strong postseason performance with the Red Sox in 2004, helping Boston capture its first World Series title in 86 years.
Towards the tail-end of his career, Ramirez also made a brief stop in Chicago. The outfielder went 18-for-69 (.261) with one home run in 24 games on the South Side.

Though a reunion in Chicago doesn’t seem likely for Ramirez, the White Sox do have an opening at hitting coach after parting ways with Marcus Thames. The expectation is for Will Venable to have more of an influence in the upcoming hire, with a focus on adding someone that can embrace a shared hitting philosophy and consistent organizational message from top to bottom with director of hitting Ryan Fuller.
