A Bridgeport man came home from work Tuesday to find his roommate dead and tied up in their shared apartment after an apparent burglary, according to a police report obtained by the Tribune.
The man flagged Deering (9th) district officers down around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 1000 block of West 31st Street. Police found the roommate, estimated to be in his 30s, in the kitchen, with his head wrapped in a blanket and a piece of underwear shoved in his mouth, the report said.
The dead man’s arms and legs were tied with rope and wire and he was wearing an electronic ankle monitor, according to the report. A Nintendo PS5, $700 in cash and two pairs of shoes were also missing, the report stated. The dead man’s identity was not yet public as of Wednesday morning.
The man who flagged down police told officers he rents one bedroom of the three-bedroom apartment where his roommate was found and didn’t know the other men who shared the unit well.
No one was in custody for the killing Wednesday morning and Wentworth Area detectives were investigating, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office was scheduled to conduct an autopsy Wednesday.
