A man has been charged with storing hundreds of suspected explosives, chemical equipment, devices and bomb-making components were discovered inside a home in unincorporated Elgin, according to the Kane County sheriff’s office.
David Minard, 46, was arrested on multiple charges in connection with the items found inside the residence at 9N800 block of South Leland Court, where he formally lived, a news release said.
Minard’s mother notified the sheriff’s office that her son had previously had ammonium nitrate shipped to the home. Minard was contacted and cooperated with officials, the release said.
Multiple agencies were called to the scene, including the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Chicago Police Department Bomb Squad, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, South Elgin Fire Department, Elgin Fire Department, FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and Homeland Security Investigations.
Officials worked July 16 and 17 to test and remove the items found, the release said.
Minard has been charged by the Kane County state’s attorney’s office with 12 counts of possession of explosives or incendiary devices, 12 counts of possession of explosive materials without a license and 12 counts of manufacture/possession of bombs or grenades, all felonies.
