Luis Robert Jr. Injury Could Derail White Sox Trade Plans

June 26, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Chicago White Sox may be in for a ruder awakening than they’ve already been in over the next few weeks. Luis Robert Jr., the 27-year-old center fielder who’s been one of the biggest names mentioned on the trade market (not the first year that’s happened, either), exited Wednesday’s contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a hamstring injury.

Injury to Luis Robert Jr. Could Affect White Sox Trade Talks

Robert left the game in the first inning and was replaced by outfielder Austin Slater. The team announced after the game that Robert exited due to “left hamstring tightness.” This injury occurred when Arizona’s Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a fly ball out to Robert, following a two-run home run from Josh Naylor.

The severity of the injury isn’t known yet. Even if it’s something minor, the White Sox could be heavily affected for years to come. The team chose to keep their former top star last year at the deadline, holding onto him when his value was high due to team control. This offseason, they parted ways with Garrett Crochet, one of the league’s top pitchers. Chicago received high-level prospects from the Red Sox in return.

Chicago’s plan has backfired tremendously. Robert looks like a player in desperate need of a change of scenery. He’s currently batting just .185 with eight home runs and a .583 OPS. His most notable stat is his 22 stolen bases, which ranks fourth in the major leagues.

The White Sox should have their fingers crossed that Robert misses little to no time. He’s under team control through 2027. This gives Chicago a chance to still get something close to the value of their former No. 1 prospect.

Robert will undergo further testing tomorrow to determine the injury’s severity.
