Introducing the 2025 News-Sun Softball All-Area Team

The first team includes two players each from Antioch, Carmel, Mundelein and Stevenson.

FIRST TEAM

Emma Andrews, Grayslake Central, senior, shortstop: Batted .510 with 11 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 40 runs scored. Conference player of the year and Class 3A all-state second team. Committed to College of Lake County.

Grace Brown, Carmel, senior, shortstop: Batted .589 with 18 doubles, five triples, 15 home runs, 64 RBIs and 56 runs scored for 3A sectional finalist. All-conference and 3A all-state first team. Committed to St. Joseph’s.

Claire Connelly, Mundelein, senior, first baseman: Batted .462 with six home runs, 44 RBIs and 30 runs scored for 4A sectional finalist. Conference player of the year and 4A all-state second team. Committed to Indiana State.

Samantha Hillner, Antioch, junior, utility: Batted .398 with 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs, 38 runs scored and 14 stolen bases for 3A sectional champion. All-conference and all-state first team.

Aubrey Jepson, Stevenson, senior, first baseman: Batted .490 with 14 doubles, 10 home runs, 53 RBIs and 36 runs scored. All-conference. Committed to Stony Brook.

Grace King, Carmel, junior, catcher: Batted .558 with 13 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs, 54 RBIs and 40 runs scored for 3A sectional finalist. All-conference and 3A all-state first team. Committed to Louisville.

Madison May, Wauconda, sophomore, catcher: Batted .459 with 16 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 37 RBIs. All-conference and 3A all-state third team.

Ava Potempa, Stevenson, junior, pitcher: Went 16-3 with 1.37 ERA and 155 strikeouts. Conference pitcher of the year.

Kieley Tomas, Mundelein, junior, outfielder: Batted .449 with eight triples, a home run, 23 RBIs, 54 runs scored and 28 stolen bases for 4A sectional finalist. All-conference and 4A all-state second team. Committed to St. Thomas.

Addison Webb, Antioch, junior, catcher: Batted .402 with 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 43 RBIs for 3A sectional champion. Allowed only one stolen base in conference games. All-conference and 3A all-state second team. Committed to Bradley.

SECOND TEAM

Brena Dalton, Grayslake North, freshman, utility: Batted .495 with nine doubles, five triples, two home runs, 38 RBIs, 35 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. All-conference.

Kate Davies, Grayslake Central, junior, catcher/first baseman: Batted .407 with nine doubles, 11 home runs and 34 RBIs. All-conference and 3A all-state third team.

Taylor Higham, Libertyville, junior, pitcher: Went 12-4 with one save and 1.70 ERA. Also batted .424 with 20 RBIs and 26 runs scored. All-conference and 4A all-state second team.

Kendall Hull, Lake Zurich, sophomore, second baseman/shortstop: Batted .466 with 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 22 RBIs and 36 runs scored. All-conference and 4A all-state third team.

Zoe Kinsella, Libertyville, senior, shortstop: Batted .404 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs. All-conference and 4A all-state third-team.

Katie Monroe, Warren, senior, catcher: Batted .377 with five home runs and 22 RBIs. Also threw out five runners attempting to steal. All-conference and 4A all-state third team. Committed to Wisconsin-Stout.

Ellary Nick, Wauconda, senior, outfielder: Batted .453 with 16 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 21 RBIs and 37 runs scored. All-conference and 3A all-state third team.

Taylor Pyke, Mundelein, sophomore, shortstop: Batted .477 with .925 slugging percentage, 11 home runs, 50 RBIs, 45 runs scored and 13 stolen bases for 4A sectional finalist. All-conference and 4A all-state third team.

Tegan Schuler, Antioch, sophomore, outfielder: Batted .395 with eight doubles, a triple, five home runs, 31 RBIs and 40 runs scored for 3A sectional champion. All-conference and 3A all-state second team.

Izzy Vodicka, Lake Zurich, senior, outfielder: Batted .456 with nine doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 51 RBIs and 30 runs scored. All-conference and 4A all-state third team.
