How the Brewers Can Keep Their 12-Game Win Streak Alive

August 14, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Milwaukee Brewers are the hottest team in baseball, fresh off a 12-5 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates. That pushed their win streak to 12 games, just one shy of the Brewers’ franchise record. This magical run has energized the city and even scored fans free burgers. But it begs a pressing question: how do the Brewers keep this remarkable streak alive?

Key Contributors and Overperformers During Brewers’ Win Streak

William Contreras

William Contreras has been the heartbeat of the offense during the streak. Over the last six home games, he’s notched 10 hits, including three home runs and a whopping 12 RBI. His recent clutch hit, a bases-clearing single to restore Milwaukee’s lead against Pittsburgh, is emblematic of his current form. He has recorded multiple hits in each of his last four games, igniting rallies and driving in runs when it matters most.

Christian Yelich

Christian Yelich is showing flashes of his MVP days, driving in three runs in the latest win and providing consistent production at the plate. He now has at least 22 home runs this season. His power surge, including a recent two-run shot, has anchored the top of the lineup during the streak.

Sal Frelick and Joey Ortiz

Sal Frelick and Joey Ortiz have delivered beyond expectations, combining for crucial RBI at pivotal moments. Frelick, meanwhile, set the tone with a leadoff home run against Pirates ace Paul Skenes to spark a 14-0 rout one night earlier. Both players’ ability to reach base and push the envelope offensively has made them invaluable, despite their youth.

Isaac Collins and the Bullpen

Isaac Collins doesn’t always grab headlines, but his timely doubles and sacrifice bunts have been key. On the mound, Milwaukee’s mix-and-match bullpen has neutralized late-inning threats. Solid work from Jared Koenig and a revived Nick Mears have turned close games into comfortable, streak-extending wins. Brandon Woodruff, their All-Star ace Freddy Peralta, and the bullpen have delivered quality innings, limiting opponents early and closing out games with minimal drama.

Statistical Support for the Surge Offensive Explosion

The Brewers have scored double-digit runs in four games this month. The Crew is also averaging over 8.5 runs per game during the streak, an elite rate for any MLB club. Their 64-run differential during these 12 wins underlines not just consistency, but dominance. Milwaukee’s 12 hits in their latest victory included only two extra-base hits. Strong situational hitting has provided the offensive edge, not just the long ball.

How to Keep the Streak Rolling

Stick to Team Offense

The Brewers’ surge is built on unselfish, opportunistic offense. Continued focus on OBP, aggressive base running, and two-strike hitting can sustain this production even if home runs dry up.

Maximize Bullpen Matchups

Manager Pat Murphy’s bullpen usage, mixing and pairing arms based on matchups, has been instrumental. Keeping the pen rested gives Milwaukee options to handle late-inning challenges.

Defensive Focus

Mistake-free defense sparks double plays and prevents big innings. The Brewers’ tight fielding has made the difference in close contests. Continuing this trend is crucial as opponents adjust.

Ride the Hot Hands, Be Ready to Shuffle

Top contributors like Contreras and Frelick may inevitably cool off. Milwaukee must be nimble in rotating lineups to ride the next wave of hot bats. Continued development from the youth movement ensures there’s always a fresh spark in the order.

The Last Word

The ingredients fueling the Brewers’ 12-game win streak are no accident. A mix of stars exceeding expectations, young players stepping up, and a team philosophy that prizes smart, adaptable baseball has all coalesced in August. To turn this streak into something historic, they’ll need to keep blending unselfish offense, sharp pitching, and relentless defense every night. If they do, the next round of burgers might just taste even better.
