Will anybody score?
With two of the worst offenses in MLB and two pitchers with ERAs of less than three, the over/under on this game may be 1.5. But, baseball gods being the jokers they are, it could end up 10-8.
Erick Fedde will toss for the White Sox, facing old buddy Lance Lynn, who seems to have found the Fountain of Youth by returning to the team that drafted him in 2008. The 36-year old Lynn has an ERA about a third of what he had last year with the Sox (2.64 vs. 6.47), but a 1.40 WHIP and 4.73 FIP indicate he may have had some good fortune so far this season.
Lynn will be facing a lineup that does not include Martín Maldonado, which is normally a good thing but may not be this time, because Maldonado absolutely crushes him — .438/.500/.688.
Fedde’s 2.60 ERA comes with a 4.00 FIP, but his 1.067 WHIP is helped by walking just nine in 34 2⁄3 innings. His control has been especially sharp the last two outings, with no walks in 14 1⁄3 innings, including going 8 1⁄3 against the Rays last time out. Willson Contreras has gone deep on him twice in three trips, but that was before the Korea overhaul.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Central, with the temp 81° and light winds, but a chance of thunderstorms moving in around the sixth inning. Usual broadcast suspects.
