The White Sox and Royals were tied when rain interfered yesterday afternoon
Prior to the rainstorm, the White Sox and Royals were tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. The White Sox had a runner on first, two outs, and Ryan Cordell was at the plate with a 2-2 count. Iván Nova pitched five innings and allowed one run on six hits. He did not issue any walks and struck out two. This solid performance lowered Nova’s ERA to 6.52.
Royals starter Homer Bailey lasted 4 1⁄3 innings and allowed one run on three hits. The White Sox’s only run crossed home plate on a Yolmer Sánchez single. Yolmer’s single came against Kansas City reliever Brian Flynn and drove in James McCann, who Flynn inherited from Bailey. McCann was one of the few White Sox who fared well against Bailey, as he got two of the White Sox’s three hits against him.
The Royals (18-34) and White Sox (23-29) will resume play at 4:40 CST. The White Sox are 3-3 in their matchups against Kansas City this season. This is the first of the third three-game series between these two teams.
Early this afternoon, the White Sox made a roster move.
