The South Siders look to start their road trip on a positive note
The White Sox (40-69) are looking to get off to a strong start against the Angels (53-56) in Anaheim.
All-Star starting pitcher Shane Smith, 25, will start on the mound for the South Siders. Smith enters this game with a 4.26 ERA, a 4.20 FIP, and 1.2 fWAR in 86 2⁄3 innings. This will be Smith’s first appearance since July 11, as he suffered a sprained ankle shortly after that start. Before the injury, Smith had made three starts in July, and it was a rough month for him, posting a 9.75 ERA and a 6.76 FIP in 12 innings. However, overall, it has been a solid season, and the White Sox have certainly gotten more production from Smith than they expected.
Left-handed pitcher Tyler Anderson, 35, will start for the Angels. This season, Anderson has a 4.41 ERA and a 5.11 FIP, resulting in 0.5 fWAR in 112 1⁄3 innings. Anderson has made four starts against the White Sox in his career, and the South Siders have performed well against him. Anderson has posted a 8.50 ERA in those four starts, with the White Sox posting a .268/.354/.423 slash line against him.
