Can the South Siders pull off the sweep?

Happy Sunday Sox fans, or happy Sweep Sunday I should say, as the Chicago White Sox look to take the third game from the Texas Rangers after an impressive first two of the series. The first game had pitching, the second had the offense, now what will today bring?

Patrick Corbin will face off against Davis Martin. Both have respectable ERAs, but let’s take a closer look.

Corbin is 3-3 with a 3.59 ERA, serving as a solid part of the Texas rotation this season. The 35-year-old veteran spent six seasons with the Washington Nationals before this year, and now moves over the the American League for the first time in his career. His last start against the New York Yankees was average, as he went five innings with five hits, three runs, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Martin has been great for the South Siders despite his 2-5 record, as he sports a 3.49 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. His last outing was outstanding even though he did pick up the loss, going 7 1⁄3 innings with only four hits, two runs, one walk, and three strikeouts against the Seattle Mariners. One thing to note as of late is that Martin has had back-to-back long outings; today could reveal whether he’s gassed, or is up for the challenge of taking on a heavy innings load.

Chase Meidroth leads it off, as he looks to extend his hitting streak to 12. Austin Slater follows him up, as do Miguel Vargas and Andrew Benintendi. Luis Robert Jr. will be in center after collecting a solid few hits this series, and Edgar Quero looks to break his slump. Lenyn Sosa is back out there after his big day yesterday, and Michael A. Taylor and Vinny Capra end it off.

Alejandro Osuna, the Rangers No. 4 prospect, will make his debut this afternoon, as the outfielder looks to help the struggling Texas offense. After starting the season in Double-A, Osuna quickly moved to Triple-A, where he impressed in a short eight games to get the call. His rise almost identicallly mirrors Brooks Baldwin’s last season.
