Four Home Run Day Secures Victory for White Sox over the Rockies

Jonathan Cannon got the start for the White Sox against Cal Quantrill and the Colorado Rockies for Game 2 of the series. Cannon went 5 and two thirds with 3 strikeouts. Tanner Banks and Steven Wilson came in for scoreless innings of relief.

The Rockies scored first on a solo home run by Brendan Rodgers.

In the top of the fifth, the Rockies extended their lead on a 2-run home run by Nolan Jones.

The White Sox bats came to life in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nicky Lopez roped a double to start the inning. Lenyn Sosa hit a 2-run HR to put the Sox on the board. Rockies 3 — White Sox 2.

Luis Robert Jr. crushed a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game for the White Sox! The offense didn’t stop there! Andrew Vaughn got hit by a pitch and Paul DeJong hit a 2-run home run to give the White Sox a 5–3 lead.

The White Sox offense exploded in the bottom of the 8th inning. Luis Robert Jr. walked, Eloy Jiménez came in to pinch hit for Gavin Sheets, and hit a single. He was replaced for a running substitution by Corey Julks. Andrew Vaughn hit another single which allowed Luis Robert Jr. to score, and Julks to advance to third. Paul DeJong hit a single to right field, which allowed Julks to score. Korey Lee became the next to join in on the home runs at Guaranteed Rate Field. He hit a 3 run shot to left center to extend the White Sox lead, 10–3. Lenyn Sosa walked and Tommy Pham singled. The pitcher, Riley Pint, threw a wild pitch which allowed Sosa to score. The White Sox scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th, giving them an 11–3 lead.

Justin Anderson sent the Rockies down in order in the top of the 9th to secure the victory.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Colorado Rockies by a score of 11–3 on June 29, 2024 at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.
