Another day, another roster move, but one unrelated to the 28-man squad: The White Sox claimed infielder Ben Cowles off waivers from the Cubs and added him to the 40-man roster, which is now at 39.
Cowles had been designated for assignment by the Cubs after they claimed Carlos Santana. They originally acquired him from the Yankees in a trade for Mark Leiter Jr. at the 2024 deadline, as he’d been a productive hitter at Double-A Somerset, but Triple-A has posed a bigger challenge, as he’s hit just .238/.304/.382 with 132 strikeouts over 113 games for the Iowa Cubs.
