Elgin council approves plans for new company headquarters
An Elgin company’s plans to move its headquarters into a new $19 million, 105,000-square-foot building on Mason Road won Elgin City Council approval this week.
E&O Solutions, a trucking service transportation company, will construct the facility on a 20-acre parcel of undeveloped land west of Capital Street. Its current offices on Toll Gate Road will be leased once the relocation is complete.
The project includes space for a warehouse and truck maintenance facility with 21 drive-in doors to service and repair company trucks, Elgin Community Development Director Marc Mylott told the council at its Wednesday night meeting.
It will also have office space, a 5,000-square-foot penthouse, and 336 truck and trailer parking spaces behind the building, Mylott said. The area will be screened from public view by an 8-foot-high, solid privacy fence.
Extensive landscaping is planned, with 220 trees and 630 shrubs being planted, Mylott said.
Elgin Fire Department EMS team honored by heart association
The American Heart Association recently recognized the Elgin Fire Department with its annual Mission: Lifeline Gold Standard award for providing high-quality cardiac and stroke care.
The award recognizes the department’s Emergency Medical Services team’s clinical excellence and rapid response, according to a post on the city’s website.
“This recognition reflects the exceptional training and dedication of our first responders,” Elgin Fire Chief Robb Cagann said in the release.
The department runs a year-round EMS training program that combines classroom and hands-on instruction, helping paramedics stay up to date on the latest advances and maintain essential skills, the release said. A continuous quality improvement program reviews about 100 EMS calls each month to ensure best practices are followed, feedback is given and documentation is thorough.
