Roki Sasaki Goes on Injured List with Shoulder Injury
Growing Pains…Literally
Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said that Sasaki reported some soreness after his last start. The Dodgers are currently playing 19 games in 20 days. As a result, Sasaki pitched on short rest, due to the arms already on the IL It is unclear if not having the fifth day of rest had any bearing on the injury. The Japanese rookie is the 14th Dodgers pitcher to land on the IL this season.
A Work in Progress
Sasaki has shown flashes of brilliance in his nascent major league career. However, his development has been happening on the big stage simply because the Dodgers need pitching. Sasaki, who normally features a two-pitch arsenal, has been working on a slider with mixed results at best. In his last start, the Arizona Diamondbacks scored five earned runs on five hits. Sasaki also walked two in four innings of work. Perhaps most telling, is the right-hander did not record a strikeout in his latest outing. In his first eight major-league starts, his ERA is 4.72. No timetable for Sasaki’s return has been determined.
A Needed Boost to the Starting Rotation
The Dodgers did still get some welcome news on Tuesday. Future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw makes his 2025 season debut against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Additionally, Tyler Glasnow starts playing catch this week. Right now, the Dodgers could use any good news on the pitching front.
