The Los Angeles Dodgers need some good news after giving up a series win to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. It comes in the form of the soon return of third baseman Max Muncy. The left-handed slugger will begin a rehab assignment tomorrow at Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to David Vassegh of Sportsnet LA. Muncy could be available to return to the Dodgers this week, but he will probably return at the beginning of the next homestead.

Not as Bad as Once Feared
Muncy suffered a knee contusion late in a game at the beginning of July. At first glance, the injury was feared to be much worse. However, the Dodgers’ third baseman avoided any ligament tears, which would have been season-ending. The initial prognosis was that he would miss at least six weeks. However, Muncy’s recovery has been much quicker than expected. He was seen doing fielding drills within a week of the injury.

A Season Of Ups and Downs
April and May were forgettable months for Muncy. He was batting below a .200 average with more than a few strikeouts, and just one homer. If that wasn’t enough, he was near the league lead in defensive errors as well. However, since donning glasses, Muncy has sported a near .300 batting average and double-digit home runs. As an added bonus, his defense had fewer hiccups. He showed he was capable of carrying the Dodgers.
Stuck in Neutral
Muncy’s production has been sorely missed by Los Angeles. They have struggled to maintain a consistent offense in his absence. They have a losing record since his injury. And now, they are below .500 for the year against winning clubs. A snapshot of offensive ineptness was on display in the Dodgers’ last two losses to the Red Sox. Los Angeles was just 1-14 with runners in scoring position, and left 20 men on base.
With the return of Muncy, will the Dodgers be able to find what it means to be clutch again?
