Dodgers Could Look to Pursue Another Infielder This Offseason

November 26, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

There have been predictions that the Los Angeles Dodgers will be actively retooling their roster in pursuit of a third straight World Series win. They have already made moves to that end. Most notably, former All-Star right-hander Tony Gonsolin has been released. It is no secret that they need to upgrade the outfield and the bullpen, even with the star power on the roster. However, in order to ensure depth, could the Dodgers acquire an infielder? Most likely, someone who could play second base and beef up the bench?

Dodgers May Be in the Market for an Infielder

Taking Stock

Ironically, there was much discussion about the four-spot in the infield going into 2025. Looking back, Mookie Betts played a Gold-Glove caliber shortstop, and he isn’t moving…yet. Currently, the Dodgers have Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim on the current 40-man roster, which has 37 players on it. Both Edman and Kim have played multiple infield positions. Kim is coming off his first season, where he struggled with injuries and at the plate. Miguel Rojas and Kiké Hernández are free agents and have yet to sign anywhere. In addition, Hernández had elbow surgery, and Edman had a procedure on his ankle. Only Edman will be ready for Opening Day, according to reports. There has been no word on Kiké. The Dodgers know it’s a long season and prefer to get as healthy as possible for October. As a result, it wouldn’t be a surprise to slow walk Edman and Hernandez back.

Bringing Back a World Series Hero

The Dodgers wouldn’t have won the World Series without Miguel Rojas. His defensive exploits were incredible in Game Six, and his game-tying swing in the ninth inning of Game Seven was legendary. He is an indispensable leader on and off the field. To put it simply, Rojas is manager material in the future. The question is, is that future now? The veteran says he would like to play one more year for Los Angeles before retirement. Will that be in a Dodgers uniform? Rojas will be 37 next season, and he was relegated to the bench for most of the season. Prior to the home run in the World Series, Rojas didn’t have a hit in a month. Will the Dodgers show loyalty and re-sign the veteran, or will they try to get younger?

Last season, they notably cut ties with Chris Taylor and clubhouse leader Austin Barnes, despite their past contributions to the team. However, an educated guess puts the odds at more than 50-50 that Rojas is on the roster next season.

What Are They Looking For?

The Dodgers’ bench has been a weak spot for the last several seasons. It has also been right-handed dominant. Michael Conforto and Dalton Rushing struggled to produce from the left side for most of the year in 2025. It is no secret that Los Angeles values flexibility, as the majority of the roster can play multiple positions. Look for the Dodgers to pursue a left-handed hitting infielder with a batting average above .230 with a little pop. The player may not be a headliner, but he needs to be able to execute in a moment when needed.

Let’s see what happens next.
