Brewers Ship Civale to White Sox Following Rotation Fallout

June 14, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

Just one day after publicly requesting a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers, right-handed pitcher Aaron Civale has been dealt.

Rather than spending the rest of the 2025 season in Milwaukee’s bullpen with a playoff contender, Civale will now join the Chicago White Sox. He’s moving from a postseason hopeful to a team buried in the standings. There are several ways to view the trade. Perhaps the Brewers could only find one team with interest. Or, maybe, after Civale’s request, they sent him to one of the worst possible situations out of spite.

Rotation Frustration Sparks Exit

Civale’s frustration boiled over when the team pulled him from the rotation. Across five starts, the 30-year-old went 1–2 with a 4.91 ERA in just 22 innings. The Brewers made the move to open a spot for top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski, who has dominated Triple-A lineups.

“He’s got a right to feel how he wants to feel, but now it’s time for him to go behave,” said Brewers manager Pat Murphy. “He’s got to go pitch for us if we ask him to pitch for us, and I think he will. He’s that type of guy, and I respect him a great deal.”

White Sox Send Vaughn in Return

The Brewers aren’t just getting cash considerations or a low-end prospect in return. They’ll be gaining former top prospect Andrew Vaughn, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. Vaughn was the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, but has yet to break onto the scene. The first baseman has a -1.6 bWAR this season, the second worst in all of baseball. With potentially a fresh opportunity, Vaughn can provide the Brewers with the power as advertised during his time in the minors.

New Opportunity on the South Side

The White Sox currently sit near the bottom of the AL Central, with little to play for beyond player development and pride. Their rotation has struggled with injuries and inconsistency, giving Civale a real shot to lock down a starting role, but wins will be hard to come by.
