The White Sox announced a series of minor league roster moves Friday. These moves include several promotions for notable prospects within the system, along with a few demotions from struggling minor leaguers and the release of a former draft pick.
Promotions
Infielder Sam Antonacci made the jump from Winston-Salem to Birmingham. Antonacci is slashing .280/.426/.413 this season with the Dash and drew 39 walks against 37 strikeouts. The infielder has mostly played second base (221.2 innings), but has also spent time at third (156) and short (51.1). Antonacci, the team’s fifth-round pick in last year’s draft, will likely continue to cover all three positions in a crowded Barons’ infield.
Also making the trip to Birmingham are outfielder Matt Hogan and catcher Juan Gonzalez. Both spent time with the Barons last season, with Gonzalez also making a brief appearance for the Knights earlier this year. Hogan, signed as an undrafted free agent before the 2024 season, has struggled this year while battling injury. Gonzalez has only played in ten games this season, bouncing between the active roster and developmental list several times.
Four players will make their way up to Winston-Salem: first baseman Lyle Miller-Green, relief pitcher Jonathan Clark, starting pitcher Seth Keener, and outfielder T.J. McCants. All four will join the Dash after spending most or all of the season with the Cannon Ballers. Miller-Green and McCants both own on-base percentages in the .400s in A-ball this year. Clark, a UDFA signed this past winter, posted a 2.40 ERA while striking out 53 in 41.1 innings with the Ballers. Keener struggled with the Dash earlier this season, but now returns to a pitching-hungry Dash team.
Additionally, FutureSox reporter Jeff Cohen reported that pitcher Mathias LaCombe will be among several players making the jump to Kannapolis from the Arizona Complex League. The French-born pitcher currently rocks a 2.52 ERA and 0.953 WHIP across 35.2 innings this year in the Arizona Complex League. After being drafted in 2023, injuries have delayed his professional debut. However, he is finally pitching for the Sox’s minor league affiliates and proving why the club was high on him.
Finally, as Scott Merkin reports, Noah Syndergaard will be joining the Charlotte Knights after spending time with the Arizona Complex League White Sox. The long-time Mets pitcher has not pitched in the majors since 2023.
Demotions
With so many players moving up, some had to head down to make space. Relief pitcher Jarold Rosado is heading back to the Dash after struggling with the Barons. Along with him, starting pitcher Manuel Veloz has also been demoted, returning to the Cannon Ballers after nine games with the Dash. Finally, catcher Weston Eberly, who has filled in as an extra catcher for both the Barons and Knights this year, joined Rosado in returning to Winston-Salem.
Other Moves
In addition to all of the promotions and demotions, pitcher Connor McCullough will begin a rehab assignment in Winston-Salem. McCullough posted a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings with the Barons last season. The organization also released outfielder Terrell Tatum. Tatum, the Sox’s 16th-round pick in 2021, made it to Birmingham in 2023 and 2024, however he has struggled in 43 games with the Dash this year.
