The South Siders stay hot, with another blowout win

The White Sox came back from the All-Star break as an entirely new team. The bats have stayed hot, wins are piling up, and Dan Plesac has been wearing a smelly polo for all four games … all culminating in a four-game win streak.

The White Sox didn’t waste much time. Kyle Teel singled to start the second inning, and Colson Montgomery continued with a one-out single, sending Teel to third. On the first pitch with two outs, Brooks Baldwin decided to clear the bases with a three-run bomb and put the Good Guys up, 3-0:

Meidroth had yet another quality at-bat, this time with a single to start the third. Andrew Benintendi picked up a five-pitch walk, prompting a mound visit for Shane Baz. Miguel Vargas won the full count battle, as Baz gave up back-to-back walks, loading the bases with no outs. Luis Robert Jr. took the ball for a ride with a two-run RBI single:

Then Montgomery beat out the the double-play attempt at first to send Vargas home:

The White Sox closed out the top of the third with a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Josh Lowe reached on a throwing error by Meidroth to start the bottom half, and José Caballero walked after a pitch clock violation. Despite two outs, Burke started to struggle again, and Mike Tauchman unable to make the grab, sent two runs home and a double for Taylor Walls. Thankfully, Chandler Simpson hit a ball straight to the glove of Baldwin to end the inning.

Benintendi started the fifth with a double, and Vargas once again won a full-count battle. But time, the win came in the form of a two run homer, prompting a pitching change and delivering an 8-2 lead:

Yandy Díaz picked up a four-pitch walk to start the bottom of the fifth, taking Burke out of the game short of picking up the apparent win. Tyler Gilbert stepped in for a brief period, delivering two strikeouts and a walk. Not wanting to risk potential runs, Steven Wilson entered the game and got the final out for the fifth.

In the ninth Meidroth, now 3-for-4, hit his second double of the evening, in his first four-hit game of his career. Unfortunately, he was stranded again after three straight punch outs. Dan Altavilla stepped in to shut down the Rays offense with ease, and the White Sox celebrated yet another win on the road.
