The Chicago White Sox are stepping up to the plate for the planet as together the organization and fans celebrate Earth Day 2025! From concessions partners to park operations, teams at Rate Field are continuing to take big swings toward a greener future.
Mitigating food waste remains a top priority. The Sox are excited to roll out an expanded composting program that includes new receptacles across the 100 and 500-level concourses. These make it easy for fans to help compost and sort their waste.

This new program builds on existing efforts that have diverted more than five tons of food waste from landfills each year. Now, the organization is bringing fans into that success story, with hopes for even greater results. It’s about making the ballpark experience more sustainable without changing the fun of peanuts and crackerjacks — simple, visible steps that add up to a cleaner, greener Rate Field.
How else do the Sox promote sustainability?

Over the last year, the organization has introduced new monitoring innovations to reduce electricity use. In fact, 2024 saw 5.5 million kilowatt-hours saved — a 20 percent reduction thanks to these smart lighting upgrades and systems.
Water conservation is a big win as well, where usage is down more than 18 percent. These aren’t minor tweaks. These are tangible results from a focused strategy that’s reshaping grounds crew and park operations every day.
Concessions partners are in on the action. Here’s a look at some of Delaware North and Levy’s eco-friendly food and beverage offerings:

The White Sox commitment extends beyond Rate Field, and into the community. The club has introduced several fun ways for fans to get involved.
The White Sox will partner with the Alliance for Great Lakes for an Earth Day beach cleanup on April 22. Sox front office staff will collect litter and contribute data to a regional pollution study.
Then on April 25, the White Sox Volunteer Corps will join Park Lawn Residential Center, an agency supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, focused on garden prep and other landscaping efforts.
Earth Day is a great moment to celebrate progress. Small actions, repeated often can make the biggest difference.
