Lake Station police said a suspect is in custody after the death of a 21-year-old Lake Station man in an incident that took place early Sunday in the 2600 block of Central Avenue, the city’s main business district.
In a release, police said they responded to a call at 1:51 a.m. Sunday regarding a male who was unconscious and not breathing.
Police said a suspect was taken into custody at the scene and they labeled it as an isolated incident. The suspect’s name was not released.
The Lake County coroner’s office identified the victim as Benard Taylor and said his family made a positive identification at the coroner’s office.
The coroner’s office said Taylor sustained a lacerating wound and labeled his death as a homicide. Taylor was pronounced dead at 6:21 a.m. Sunday.
Along with Lake Station police and EMS, the Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators are involved in the investigation.
