My alphabetical-ish review of the White Sox 2025 roster —@SoxNerd style — continues with a look at LENYN SOSA:
*Sosa led the 2025 White Sox with a career-high 22 home runs
*Sosa hit 15 of his 22 home runs as a second baseman, which are tied with Jim Morrison (1980) and Juan Uribe (2004) for the eighth-most in team history. Alexei Ramirez hit a club-record 21 homers for second sackers in 2008.
*Sosa joins Jake Burger (2023) as the only White Sox players to hit 20 homers in a season while playing first, second and third base
*Sosa and Magglio Ordonez (1999, 2002) are the only Venezuelans to lead the Sox in homers … Sosa is fourth in Sox history among Venezuelans behind Ordonez (187), Avisail Garcia (74) and Luis Aparicio (46) with 37 homers … His 22 homers in 2025 are the most by a Sox player from Venezuela not named Ordonez. Ordonez holds the top five spots on this list
*Sosa also led the 2025 Sox in games (140), at bats (518), hits (137) and RBI (75) … Sosa, Sanchez (2017), Ordonez (4 times) and Luis Aparicio (4) are the only Venezuelans to lead the Sox in hits. … Sosa and Ordonez (three times) are the only Venezuelans to lead the Sox in RBI
*Sosa collected a team-high 36 of his 75 RBI (48 percent) with two outs in 2025. For his career, Sosa has driven in 66 of his 125 runs (53 percent).
*Sosa tied Boston’s Ceddanne Rafaela for the MLB lead with 22 hits on an 0-2 count in 2025. … The 22 hits tied Juan Pierre’s 2010 club record and are tied for the fourth-most in MLB since 1988 when the stat started being tracked
*Sosa’s 10 starts at cleanup were the most by a Sox second baseman since Cass Michaels’ club-record 42 in 1949. The 10 starts are seventh in Sox history with the top six happening between 1909 and 1949. … Sosa is eighth in Sox history here with 12 starts. Michaels is the franchise leader at 51 … Jorge Orta (2), Sosa and Lew Fonseca are the only players to homer for the Sox as a cleanup hitting second baseman. Sosa’s blast of Aug. 18, 2025 was the first by a Sox cleanup hitting second baseman since July 24, 1979 (Orta).
*Sosa’s .778 average in 2025 is tied with St. Louis’ Thomas Howard’s 1999 output for the highest ever against the Philadelphia Phillies (min. 9 at bats). The Phillies played their first game on May 1, 1883.
*Two players in White Sox history have been a 2,999th strikeout victim: Sosa vs. the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw (July 3, 2025) and Willie Kamm vs. the Senators’ Walter Johnson (June 15, 1923)
