My alphabetical-ish review of the White Sox 2025 roster continues with a look at CHASE MEIDROTH:
Let’s talk about Meidroth’s Major League debut of April 11th where he went 1-for-1 with two runs and three walks in an 11-1 win over Boston at Rate Field …
*Meidroth and Ray Morehart (Aug. 9, 1924) are the only White Sox players to walk three times in a Major League debut
*Meidroth was the first big leaguer to walk three times in a debut since April 1, 2013 (Boston’s Jackie Bradley Jr.)
*Meidroth was the first player to hit safely and walk three times in an MLB debut since Hall-of-Famer Larry Walker did it on Aug. 16, 1989 for Montreal
*Meidroth’s two runs were the most by a Sox player in a debut since Matt Skole scored twice on May 28, 2018 in Cleveland. Only Craig Wilson at three on Sept. 5, 1998 scored more runs in a Sox debut than Meidroth, Skole and 16 others.
*Meidroth is the only Sox position player to make his MLB debut in a victory with a double-digit run differential
And more on Meidroth …
*Meidroth led the Majors with a .327 average and .393 on-base percentage leading off games (minimum 36 at bats).
He was at .383 in this role late in the season but he went 0-for-his-last-8 with a hit by pitch starting games to drop his average almost 60 points in this situation.
*Meidroth’s 3-double game on July 21, 2025 was the first by a White Sox rookie since Harold Baines on April 20, 1980 at Baltimore
*Meidroth’s 14 steals in 2025 were the most by a Sox rookie since Chris Getz’s 25 in 2009
*Meidroth swiped 14 bases at age 23 for the 2025 Sox. The last time a Sox player younger than Meidroth stole more bases was in 1998 when 21-year old Mike Caruso posted 22 steals.
*Meidroth hit 38 points higher while playing shortstop (.269 in 70 games) than he did while playing second base (.231 in 57 games). His OPS at short was .684 and .600 at second base.
*Meidroth thrived in the first three innings of a game in 2025, slashing .288/.355/.397. In innings four through six those numbers were .209/.269/.254 and in innings seven through nine it was .246/.349/.277 thanks to .344/.475/.406 in the ninth inning.
*Meidroth hit four of his five homers against teams .500 or better
*Meidroth posted the best White Sox single-season average and on-base percentage marks ever against the Detroit Tigers (minimum 13 at bats). The White Sox have played the Tigers every season since 1901.
Meidroth hit .591 (13-for-22) with a .700 OBP in seven games against Detroit in 2025. His OBP is the highest by any White Sox player with at least eight at bats.
That .591 average is also the Sox highest career mark against Detroit (11 at bats) and the .700 OBP is the highest for those with at least five at bats.
In addition, Meidroth’s season OBP was the highest ever posted vs. Detroit (min. 22 at bats) and his average is second behind Hall-of-Famer Adrian Beltre’s .600 for the 2014 Rangers.
