My alphabetical review of the 2021 White Sox continues with a look at ROMY GONZALEZ:
*When Romy Gonzalez made his big league debut on Sept. 3, he became the 1,821st player to appear in a game for the White Sox
*On Sept. 4, Gonzalez became the first Sox player to start in the leadoff spot in either his first or second big league game.
*On Sept. 8, Gonzalez became the 1,214th Sox player to record a hit. Fred Hartman’s 2-run single in the franchise’s inaugural game on April 24, 1901 was the Sox first hit
*On Sept. 16, Gonzalez made his pro debut as a pitcher for the Sox by striking out the only batter he faced. His third baseman? Jose Abreu, who was making his pro debut at the position
Gonzalez is the only pitcher in Sox history who fanned the only batter he faced … The next closest: Adam La Roche three batters faced, one strikeout
In addition, Gonzalez (2021), Mike Squires (1984) and Lena Blackburn (1929) are the only Sox pitchers to face just one batter (all were retired)
NEXT: Brian Goodwin
