PHOTOS: Remembering Ryne Sandberg’s time with the Chicago Cubs

July 29, 2025 by WGN 9

CHICAGO (WGN) — Hall of Famer and Chicago Cubs legend Ryne “Ryno” Sandberg died in hospice care Monday following complications in his ongoing battle with prostate cancer.

The news comes after Sandberg announced his prostate cancer had relapsed and spread throughout his body in December 2024.

Sandberg spent 15 of his 16 seasons in the MLB with the Cubs. He had a lifetime batting average of .285, with 2,386 career hits and 282 career home runs.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
