Phillies a Good Trade Fit for Astros Infielder

December 12, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Philadelphia Phillies would be a good trade fit for Houston Astros infielder Isaac Paredes. According to a report from Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Astros could deal Paredes to clear an infield logjam. Paredes has major league experience at all four infield positions. The Phillies have also been linked to Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ketel Marte, so they have at least explored the idea of upgrading the infield through a trade. It is more likely that Paredes gets traded than Marte if either gets moved this offseason. The trade cost for Paredes is going to be much more reasonable than the trade cost for Marte as well. Paredes is still arbitration eligible, whereas Marte is under contract through the 2030 season with a player option for the 2031 season.

Either Alec Bohm or Bryson Stott, and maybe even bot,h could be on the move this offseason. Paredes would most likely be brought in to play third base with Bohm being traded. However, Paredes playing second base after a trade of Stott might also happen. While Bohm has been a widely discussed trade candidate the past few offseasons, the continued reports of the Phillies being interested in Marte, a second baseman, suggest that a Stott trade may be more likely than we think. Bohm is under team control through the 2026 season. Meanwhile, Stott is under team control through the 2027 season. Of the two, Bohm is probably the player more likely to get traded this offseason than Stott.

What Paredes Would Bring To The Team If Acquired

Paredes had a .254/.352/.458 line with 20 home runs and 53 RBI in 102 games this past season. Additionally, Paredes recorded a 128 wRC+ and a .353 wOBA this year. He also had an outstanding 0.66 BB/K rate. Paredes missed some time due to injury, which is why he played in a little over 100 games. This season, Paredes recorded a career best batting average and matched a career best in on-base percentage. Furthermore, he recorded his second .800 OPS or better season. Adding Paredes could give the Phillies the right-handed cleanup bat they have been looking for. He would be under team control through the 2027 season.

Potential Trade Package Framework

It is possible that the Phillies could acquire Paredes and outfielder Jake Meyers in a package deal. Meyers has been mentioned as an outfield trade candidate for the Phillies on multiple occasions. Orion Kerkering and Aroon Escobar to the Astros for Paredes and Meyers is a deal that might make sense. Kerkering is under team control through the 2029 season, but some fans have called for him to be traded after his season-ending error in the NLDS. Escobar is one of the Phillies’ top infield prospects, but he is a few years away from being major league-ready. This season, Escobar reached Double-A, playing five games there. He is in line to be Rule 5 Draft eligible next offseason.
