A wonderful weekend to be a baseball fan.
This weekend, we got to see the annual Hall of Fame inductions in Cooperstown (where once again Ichiro Suzuki invited the one BBWAA member who didn’t vote for him to just have a nice little chat), and became immortalized in baseball history.
Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia, Billy Wagner, Dave Parker and Dick Allen were all added to the hall. Suzuki, Sabathia, and Wagner were all present to accept their plaques, while for Parker and Allen, family members were present to accept their awards.
It’s always a wonderful event, and we’ll get more into this weekend below. Plus, some big milestones for Mike Trout and Kyle Schwarber. Also, the A’s might have played the most memorable game of baseball for the entire season.
Let’s get right into it.
- Aaron Judge has been sent to the IL, but he does not have a torn UCL. Story by Bill Ladson.
- Eva Geitheim reports on Kyle Schwarber’s 1,000th career hit.
- Anthony Castrovince looks at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He also gets into Ichiro’s speech specifically.
- If and when the Rays are sold, the new owners will need to come up with a plan for a stadium, as the current stadium deal is legally dead. Story by Eric Fisher.
- I’m not crying, you’re crying.

- Matt Monagan reports that the Talons are champions of the first AUSL season.
- Rhett Bolinger shares that Mike Trout has collected his 1,000th career RBI.
- Lou Seal had a sweet moment with the other mascots at the Hall of Fame ceremony. Story by Karl Rasmussen.
- Mike Kadlick looks at the bench-clearing brawl between the Padres and Cardinals after Manny Machado was hit by a pitch twice.
- Dhanin Joseph reports that (no surprise) the Home Run Derby champ Cal Raleigh is the first player to 40 home runs this season.
- This is insane.
Never in baseball’s 150-year history has a player finished a game with at least six hits, six runs and eight RBIs until Nick Kurtz tonight.
His 19 total bases tie Shawn Green’s single-game record — and Kurtz had one more RBI. There’s a genuine argument it is the best game ever.
