Wins for Iowa and South Bend tonight.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs put the sauce on the Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays), 12-3.
Riley Thompson dominated the Bison for four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Thompson walked two and struck out four.
The win went to Richard Lovelady because Thompson didn’t go five innings. Lovelady gave up one run on three hits over two innings. He struck out two and walked no one.
Carl Edwards Jr. threw a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation. Edwards allowed a hit and issued a walk while striking out one.
Third baseman Jake Slaughter blew this game open with a three-run home run in the sixth inning, his fourth on the season. Slaughter went 1 for 3 with three walks. He scored twice.
The game became a rout with a six-run top-of-the-eighth inning for Iowa. Catcher Ali Sánchez was 3 for 6 with a two-run single in the eighth. Sánchez scored later in the inning.
Center fielder Darius Hill went 3 for 6 with an RBI infield single in the eighth.
Right fielder Owen Caissie was 2 for 4 with a double and two walks. He also stole a base. Caissie drove in two and scored twice.
First baseman Bryce Windham was 2 for 3 with two walks. He drove in three and scored once.
Shortstop Luis Vazquez was 2 for 6 with a double and a run scored.

Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were doused by the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels), 3-1.
Richard Gallardo pitched the first 3.2 innings and took the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits. On the positive side, Gallardo struck out six and walked just one.
Michael Arias had two more innings of relief without allowing a run. Arias allowed just one hit. He struck out four and walked no one. Arias has allowed just one run, earned or unearned, over 12.2 innings this year. That puts his ERA at 0.71.
The Smokies only had three hits this evening and second baseman James Triantos had two of them. He was 2 for 3 with a sacrifice fly with scored Jordan Nwogu in the third inning. Nwogu had walked, stole second and went to third on a balk. He was 0 for 2.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs locked up the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals), 7-4.
It was a solid start for Drew Gray, who allowed just one unearned run on one hit over 3.1 innings. Gray did walk three, but he also struck out six.
The win went to Tyler Santana, although he got roughed up for three runs on four hits over 4.2 innings. One of those hits was a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Santana walked two and struck out four.
Joe Nahas pitched the ninth inning and got the save. Nahas allowed a two-out single, but no other baserunners. He struck out one.
South Bend busted out for six runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by center fielder Parker Chavers. Chavers went 1 for 3 with a walk and two steals.
Third baseman Ed Howard was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored twice and stole a base.
Shortstop Jefferson Rojas extended his hitting streak to 13 games after a 1 for 4 night. He scored one run and drove home one.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans got scratched by the Lynchburg Hillcats (Guardians), 3-2.
Starter Marino Santy pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. He walked three and struck out three.
The loss went to Vince Reilly, who allowed a run in the fifth inning. Reilly’s final line was one run on two hits and two walks over two innings. Reilly struck out two.
The Pelicans only had five hits tonight and third baseman Christopher Paciolla had three of them, going 3 for 4 with a double and a two-run single.
