Infielders Ty Southisene and Yahil Melendez join the Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans from the rookie ball ACL Cubs. Shortstop Christopher Paciolla goes to other way, from Myrtle Beach to Mesa.
Left-hander Brandon Hughes joins Triple-A Iowa from the developmental list.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs laid an egg against the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers), 5-4 in ten innings.
It was a bullpen game for Iowa today as starter Peter Solomon pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits, with that run coming on a home run by Matt Vierling. Solomon struck out three and walked one.
Tyson Miller relieved Solomon allowed a run for the first time in his rehab stint with Iowa. Miller’s final line was one run on two hits over one inning. He walked one and struck out two.
After the I-Cubs failed to score in the top of the tenth, Brandon Hughes pitched the bottom of the inning and got the loss. Hughes loaded the bases with two outs on a walk and catcher’s interference by Moisés Ballesteros. Then Hughes hit a batter to drive in the winning run. The final line on Hughes was one unearned run on no hits, one walk and one hit batsman over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
Left fielder Owen Caissie hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, his fifth on the year. Caissie went 1 for 3 with a walk.
First baseman Jonathon Long forced extra innings with a solo home run with two outs in the top of the ninth. It was his third home run this year. Long was 2 for 5.
Shortstop Ben Cowles went 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies blinded the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds), 6-3.
A strong start meant a win for Will Sanders. Sanders allowed just one run on four hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out four.
A.J. Puckett brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with two walks, but he eventually nailed down his fourth save. Puckett allowed no runs and no hits over one inning. He walked two and struck out two.
First baseman Ethan Hearn hit a three-run home run in the third inning, his first this season. Hearn also tripled in a run in the second inning. His final line was 2 for 4 with a triple and the homer. He drove in four and scored twice.
DH Hayden McGeary went 2 for 4. He scored twice and had one RBI.
Second baseman Pedro Ramirez was 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were boiled by the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres), 14-9.
The TinCaps scored nine runs in the top of the first inning and the Cubs were chasing them the rest of the way. Starter Tyler Schlaffer was responsible for six of those first inning runs on three runs and three walks over just one third of an inning. He did strike out one batter.
Second baseman Jefferson Rojas went 3 for 4 with a triple and a walk. Rojas scored once and drove in one.
DH Edgar Alvarez was a perfect 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and he was hit by a pitch twice. He scored one run and drove in one.
Shortstop Cristian Hernandez as 2 for 5 with a double two runs scored.
Left fielder Andy Garriola was 2 for 3 with a walk and he was hit by a pitch. Garriola scored twice and drove in one.
Right fielder Ivan Brethowr it a three-run double in the sixth inning. He was 1 for 5.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans plucked the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles), 3-1.
Brooks Caple got the win after a strong five-inning start, allowing no runs on just two hits. He walked two and struck out six. He also hit one batter.
Brayden Spears gave up a run with two outs in the ninth to spoil the shutout, but he got the save anyway. Spears allowed one run on one hit over one inning. He did not strike anyone out.
The Pelicans only had four hits tonight, but they benefited from the Shorebirds’ wildness, drawing seven walks and getting hit by three pitches.
Catcher Owen Ayers hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning. Ayers went 1 for 4.
Third baseman Jose Escobar singled home second baseman Ty Southisene in the seventh for an insurance run. Escobar was 1 for 3 and was hit by a pitch.
Southisene was 0 for 1 with two walks in his first game with the Birds.
Shortstop Yahil Melendez went 0 for 3 with a walk in his first game for Myrtle Beach.
