The Cubs first baseman is on a tremendous hot streak. He shared this week’s honor.
Michael Busch had himself quite a homestand.
In addition to his three-homer game against the Cardinals Friday, he hit another home run and overall batted .565/.615/1.174 (13-for-23) over the six games with two double, four home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored. And that includes going 0-for-8 in the last two games against the Guardians, so all those hits, runs and homers came in just four of the six games.
All of that led to Busch being named National League Co-Player of the Week by MLB on Monday, along with Zack Wheeler of the Phillies.

Busch has been hot for more than just the last week, though. Since May 30 he is batting .371/.441/.762 (39-for-105) with four doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 21 runs scored in 31 games. This hitting performance has pretty much forced Craig Counsell to begin starting Busch against left-handed starters.
That won’t be an issue in the upcoming series against the Twins, as they are scheduled to throw three right-handers against the Cubs.
Busch is the third Cub to win a Player of the Week award this year. Kyle Tucker won it for the week ending April 5, and Seiya Suzuki was honored for the week ending May 24.
Congratulations to Busch (and Wheeler). As of today Busch ranks fourth in the NL with a .950 OPS. Hopefully, this is the first of many honors for the Cubs first baseman.
