Crown Point man charged with beating, strangling disabled man
A Crown Point man faces charges after attacking a physically disabled man, records allege.
Christian B. Harris, 26, is charged with domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury to an endangered adult, domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and strangulation.
Court documents describe Harris as “mentally handicapped.”
He is in custody with a $3,500 cash bond.
Schererville Police responded at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 4 to an apartment on the 8000 block of Alpine Place.
A caretaker told police that Harris started repeatedly punching, then strangling a disabled man. She got hit trying to break them up, she said. The victim can’t really move his hands and feet and was defenseless, the affidavit states.
The woman said the pair had issues living together, but hadn’t gotten into a physical fight before. One of them was slated to move out shortly, she said.
A therapist told police Harris was “manipulative” and didn’t think the police would arrest him, because he was “mentally handicapped.”
The victim was transferred to a Chicago hospital with eye and jaw fractures.
