Cubs, Sox games postponed due to inclement weather

June 19, 2025 by WGN 9

CHICAGO (WGN) — Both of Chicago’s professional baseball teams will not take the mound Wednesday as previously scheduled due to inclement weather, the teams announced.

The Chicago Cubs (45-28) were set to take on the Milwaukee Brewers (39-35) at 7:05 p.m. at Wrigley Field, but due to the forecast, which calls for an extended period of rain, the Cubs will now play the game in August.

The Cubs say the contest will now take place as the first game of a split doubleheader scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time on Monday, Aug. 18.

The White Sox (23-50) also announced the postponement of their game against the St. Louis Cardinals (38-35) at Rate Field, with a make-up doubleheader set to take place on Thursday. Wednesday’s game will now be played on June 19, starting at 1:10 p.m. The second game will begin about 30-45 minutes after the first game’s conclusion.

Sox fans who purchased tickets to Thursday’s game may attend both games of the doubleheader, the organization announced.

While Wednesday’s threat of severe weather has subsided, with earlier tornado watches issued by the National Weather Service having been pulled or expired, a flood watch remains in effect throughout part of Chicagoland through 8 p.m.
