The Cubs will replace Imanaga with a reliever, for the time being.
You all know about Shōta Imanaga’s injury, suffered in the sixth inning Sunday in Milwaukee.
Monday, it was revealed that the injury is a left hamstring strain, and the Cubs placed Imanaga on the 15-day injured list. It’s not known how long he will be out.
Imanaga’s turn in the rotation will not come up until Saturday when the Cubs face the Mets in New York, so the team has some time to figure out what to do with that rotation spot. With Thursday’s off day they could skip it and kick the rotation can down the road for a bit. Or, they could use Chris Flexen to start, or call up Cade Horton from Triple-A Iowa. As always, we await developments.
In the meantime, the Cubs have recalled righthander Gavin Hollowell from Iowa. Hollowell has made one appearance for the Cubs this year, two scoreless innings against the Dodgers April 22. At Iowa he has a 3.86 ERA and 1.286 WHIP, with 15 strikeouts in 9⅓ innings.
