According to Francys Romero, several teams are rumored to be interested in Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera. Cabrera, who is in the middle of a breakout season, should be a fit for any teams looking for rotation help at the deadline. Romero lists the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets among those most interested in the righty.

Several Teams Interested in Marlins Right-Hander
Cabrera, 27, was one of the top prospects in baseball before he broke into the majors in 2021. He struggled with command and keeping runs on the board early in his big league career. 2025 has been a different story, as he currently boasts a 3.33 ERA in 15 starts.
The Marlins don’t necessarily need to move Cabrera, as he is still under team control until 2028. If they decide to move him, the asking price will be high. Keeping him could pay off in the long run. There is some risk in keeping Cabrera based on this small sample of success. The club may be inclined to capitalize on his high value.
The club is also expected to listen to offers on former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara, which could affect Cabrera’s market. Alcantara has struggled in 2025, pitching to a 7.22 ERA in 18 games after coming back from Tommy John Surgery, which has seemingly lowered his value. Cabrera might now be the Marlins’ most valuable starter, and his club-friendly contract could bring in a massive haul if the club decides to move him.
Cubs, Mets Among Those Interested
Romero listed the Cubs and Mets among the teams most interested in Cabrera. Earlier in June, Ken Rosenthal also reported that the Chicago Cubs were interested in Cabrera as they surveyed the starting pitcher market. The Cubs have dealt with injuries to their rotation all season, and adding Cabrera to a rotation headlined by Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd would help them continue to sit atop the National League Central.
The Mets rotation has been solid in 2025. They expect to add Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga back this weekend. If they were to add Cabrera, he would slot into the middle of the Mets rotation. He could help form what would be a dominant postseason rotation. The Mets are also rumored to be looking for bullpen arms and another outfielder.
