The team made the call about half an hour before the gates to Wrigley were to open.
Rain is forecast almost all evening in Chicago, so at 4:30 p.m. CT the Cubs announced that Thursday evening’s game against the Marlins was postponed.
This was a good call by the Cubs and MLB, rather than ask the teams to play in bad weather conditions or sit through a long delay with an afternoon game tomorrow.
The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader this Saturday, April 20. The regularly-scheduled Saturday game will start at 1:20 p.m. The makeup game will begin at 6:40 p.m. If you have a ticket for Thursday’s game it will be good for the makeup game, no ticket exchange is necessary. Separate tickets are required for each game and the ballpark will be cleared after the first game, with gates re-opening for the night game about 60 minutes to game time (depending on the length of the day game).
At this time there hasn’t been any announcement of what the Cubs will do with their pitching rotation for the rescheduled series; I would guess that Jameson Taillon, scheduled to throw tonight, might start the Friday afternoon game, but that’s uncertain at this time.
As always, we await developments.
