The Cubs go for the series win.

Jameson Taillon, RHP vs. José Quintana, LHP

Jameson Taillon has been really good since a clunker in his first 2025 start. Since then, in five starts he has a 2.76 ERA and 0.944 WHIP, and has gone at least six innings in three of those starts. That’s pretty much what he was doing last year.
Last year he made four starts vs. the Brewers and posted a 2.49 ERA and 0.908 WHIP and allowed only one home run in 25⅓ innings.
Keep up the good work, Jamo.
José Quintana didn’t sign with the Brewers until March, so he had a bit of a delayed start to his season. His four starts have been excellent, as he sports a 1.14 ERA and 1.141 WHIP.
He faced the Cubs once last year, June 21, 2024 at Wrigley Field, and held them to one run in 6⅓ innings.
Quintana is 36 now and still pitching effectively. It still astounds me that he spent four seasons with the Cubs, 82 games (78 starts) and posted a 4.24 ERA. That’s so much worse than he has done for basically every other team he’s played for. For all other teams, Quintana has 281 appearances (259 starts) with an ERA of 3.56. It makes no sense that he was that good, then that bad, then that good again — unless he was injured for part of his time with the Cubs, which is entirely possible.
Here’s hoping Cubs batters hit him hard tonight.
