The Cubs go for the series sweep.
Sunday notes…
- STREAKING: The Cubs have won seven straight games against the White Sox, their longest run of success in the 148-game, 29-year regular-season rivalry. The Cubs have swept only four of the 37 three-game series vs. the Sox: at home in 1998, 2004 and 2008, and on the South Side in 2007. They have won the first two games and lost the third in five series: at home in 2002, 2007 and 2018, and on the South Side in 2012 and 2015. (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
- MILESTONE: Today’s game will be the Cubs’ 2,000th at Wrigley Field since Opening Day of 2000. They have won 1,068 and lost 931, for a winning percentage of .534. From 1916, their first year at Wrigley, through 1999, their percentage was .537 (3,498-3,054-31). (Courtesy BCB’s JohnW53)
- PCA! PCA!: Pete Crow-Armstrong, last 14 games since May 2: .327/.356/.709 (18-for-55) with a double, a triple, six home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored. He’s also in the running for NL Player of the Week — over the week so far he’s batting .450/.455/.850 (9-for-20) with two home runs and 10 RBI.
- DANSBY KEEPS IT GOING: Dansby Swanson’s on-base streak has reached 17 games. In that span he is batting .397/.471/.741 (23-for-58) with two doubles, six home runs, 11 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Colin Rea, RHP vs. Jonathan Cannon, RHP

Colin Rea has been a revelation this year. He’s having by far his best MLB season. Interestingly enough, the last time he faced the White Sox was a two-inning relief appearance Aug. 21, 2020, as a member of the Cubs during the pandemic season. I post that boxscore link mostly for amusement value. The only players still on the teams they were that day are Luis Robert Jr., Ian Happ and Nico Hoerner.
Jonathan Cannon, like many other Sox starters, is having a good year. That includes six shutout innings against the Reds last Tuesday.
He has never faced the Cubs and the only Cub who has ever faced him is Vidal Bruján (1-for-2).
Should be an interesting afternoon.
