Metra Electric Line station work complete
Two years after rehabilitation work began on the 79th Street/Chatham, 87th Street/Woodruff and 103rd Street/Rosemoore stations on the Metra Electric Line, Metra and local officials celebrated the completion of work on the 87th Street station.
The remodeling created enclosed ADA-accessible street-level entrances and lobbies with elevators, new composite deck platforms, new lighting and sign, and new stairs and headhouses – all part of a multimillion-dollar plan to transform 13 stations on the line.
Work on the line, funded with Metra’s share of money from the Rebuild Illinois capital program, continues with the start of the South Water Street entrance to Millenium Station in early October, with other projects planned for University Park, Olympia Fields, Harvey Transportation Center, 111th St./Pullman, 59th-60th/University of Chicago and Van Buren Street.
