The Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League announced that left-handed pitcher Trey Cooper signed a minor league deal with the White Sox on Tuesday. The southpaw was set for his first professional season with the Wild Things, but following a recent bullpen, had his contract transferred to Chicago.
The contract of LHP Trey Cooper, a recent signee of the club, has been transferred to the Chicago White Sox!

Cooper emerged as a standout at Randleman High School (North Carolina), earning three All-Conference selections and All-State honors while helping lead his team to a runner-up finish in the 2019 2A State Championship. He began his collegiate career at NC State, making two relief appearances during the 2022 season, before transferring to Liberty University.
In his first season with the Flames in 2023, Cooper started eight of 19 games, going 2–3 with a 5.79 ERA while striking out 32 batters over 32.2 innings. During his senior campaign, the left-hander worked exclusively out of the bullpen but struggled with command, posting an 11.57 ERA in 21 innings with 30 strikeouts and 26 walks.
While not confirmed, it’s believed the above video is from the bullpen session that helped earn Cooper his contract. The lefty’s arsenal appears to include a fastball, cutter, curveball, and changeup. Learning to limit walks and effectively control his pitch mix will be key for Cooper as he prepares for his first season in affiliated ball.
