Yankees Standing Firm on Bellinger Offer; Posada and Cervelli Reunite for WBC

January 21, 2026 by Last Word On Baseball

Tuesday’s edition of “Yankees Hot Stove” hosted by Jack Curry and Michael Kay was more of the same. A common theme this offseason is the lack of information provided on the program.

Latest on Bellinger

The Yankees are holding firm on their five-year, $155–$160 million offer for Cody Bellinger. They have already amended the deal to include opt-outs after the second and third seasons and a signing bonus. As of now, the Yankees remain the only known bidder for Bellinger’s services.

While the New York Mets loom in the sweepstakes, Bellinger continues to seek length. He and agent Scott Boras want a seven-year deal, but no team has met that demand. The Mets, meanwhile, seem to prefer a short-term, high-AAV contract. Jack Curry also noted that luxury tax penalties might discourage teams like the Mets, Blue Jays, or Dodgers from offering such a deal.

The Yankees will not move their offer based on outside bidding. To their credit, they have remained firm throughout these negotiations.

“The Yankees want their roster to include Bellinger.” Curry added at the end of the show.

Team Italy in the WBC

Two former World Champions for the Yankees will be on Team Italy’s coaching staff for the WBC. Former backstop and Yankee legend Jorge Posada and fellow backstop Francisco Cervelli. Cervelli will serve as the teams manager with Posada as a coach. “This is great” Cervelli said.”Been doing it for a year … It’s a big challenge, but it’s fun”

Cervelli came up with the Yankees in 2008 and Posada was a mentor to him. Now, they will coach along side one another.

“I’m super happy that Cervelli asked me to come on board” Posada said. “I think we have a really good team”. “I’m glad I’m not the manager.”

Posada was also asked about managing in the future in the majors. “I’m glad I’m not the manager.” he said prior. He also noted that he likes his time with the family, but “never say never” about returning to the dugout.

Team Italy will take on Team USA on March 10, 2026.
