4 Teams That Could Sign Trevon Diggs After Shocking Release

December 31, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The playoffs are just two weeks away, and former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs could provide some last-second support to a playoff contender. A two-time Pro Bowler and 2021 First-Team All-Pro, the former second-round pick used to be one of the game’s premier ballhawks. However, injuries kept him off the field for sizable portions of the last three seasons, and he no longer justifies his massive salary.

4 Teams That Could Sign Trevon Diggs After Stunning Release

Trevon Diggs may not be worth $97 million anymore, but he’s still a solid cornerback when healthy. The Alabama product will go on waivers, but assuming nobody claims him, he will likely latch on with one of the following playoff-bound teams.

4. Baltimore Ravens

Despite all odds, the Baltimore Ravens are still alive in the postseason race and will host a playoff game if they defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18. However, even if they play meaningful January football, they’ll need to improve their defense to have a chance of hoisting the Lombardi.

The Jaire Alexander signing did not work out, and while former first-round pick Nate Wiggins is developing into a solid player, veteran Marlon Humphrey is starting to slow down. Trevon Diggs isn’t the player he once was, but the Baltimore Ravens have a knack for getting the most out of aging veterans.

3. Carolina Panthers

Speaking of teams on improbable playoff runs, the Carolina Panthers are somehow atop the NFC South. Widely regarded as the league’s most confusing team, this squad has the ability to beat the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers but struggles against “easier” opponents.

Nobody knows what this team will bring to the table on any given week, and perhaps the biggest question mark is quarterback Bryce Young. Carolina has a good secondary, but adding someone like Trevon Diggs to the mix should only improve the unit. If Young is having an off game, a strong defense could help the Panthers win low-scoring contests.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are locked into a Wild Card spot and will rest some of their starters in Week 18. This likely means the team will lose on Sunday and face off against the second seed in the Wild Card round, which will most likely be the New England Patriots.

Led by the MVP frontrunner in Drake Maye, the Chargers could use a boost to their secondary as they prepare for the postseason. The Los Angeles secondary isn’t that talented, and Trevon Diggs could probably start right away for this team.

1. Chicago Bears

Head coach Ben Johnson has done a remarkable job in his first season with the Chicago Bears, guiding the team to an 11-5 record and an NFC North title. Caleb Williams looks like a franchise quarterback and the offense is great, but the defense needs some work.

You can win a championship with an offense-minded squad, but the defense needs to show up eventually. Trevon Diggs may not singlehandedly win or lose a playoff game for this team, but his presence could provide some much-needed depth to this secondary.
