The New York Jets really, really need a quarterback. Could Dante Moore be the answer? Recently, Matt Rooney of Bleacher Nation came up with a mock draft. He has the Jets selecting Moore with the third overall pick:
“3. New York Jets: QB Dante Moore – Oregon
No trade up for the Jets this time, and they still end up with one of the top quarterbacks on the board. They may have to consider moving up a slot if they want their pick of the remaining quarterbacks, however.”
Moore hasn’t announced yet whether he’s staying in school or declaring for the NFL draft. But if he does declare, the Jets have to consider taking him.
Dante Moore Could Be the Answer for the Jets
Spotlighting His Career
Dante Moore attended Martin Luther King High School in Detroit. He finished his high school career with 9,880 passing yards and 135 touchdown passes.
Moore initially committed to play college football at Oregon, but flipped his commitment to UCLA. He appeared in nine games (five starts) as a freshman. That year, he threw for 1,610 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Moore became the ninth UCLA freshman to ever start a game at quarterback.
He also threw for a season-high 290 yards in games against San Diego State and Washington State.
Moore then entered the transfer portal and transferred to Oregon. He redshirted the 2024 season as Dillon Gabriel served as the starter. He completed seven of eight passes for 49 yards during his redshirt year.
After Gabriel left for the NFL, Moore became the Ducks’ starter for 2025. This season, he has thrown for 2,733 yards and 24 touchdowns. He has also led Oregon to an 11-1 record.
Should the Jets Draft Him?

This has been a disastrous season for the Jets. Holding a 3-13 record, they have obviously been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Jets haven’t been to the playoffs since the 2010 campaign. That year, they finished 11-5 and went to the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mark Sanchez was New York’s starting quarterback back then. Yeah, that was a long time ago.
Lacking a star quarterback is one the main reasons for the Jets’ postseason drought. As everybody knows, it’s extremely difficult to win games without a franchise QB.
Last offseason, the Jets signed Justin Fields, hoping he’d emerge as a major contributor. However, the former Chicago Bears and Steelers quarterback just wasn’t the answer. Fields was benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor and is now dealing with a knee injury.
Fields is not the answer and neither are Taylor and current starter Brady Cook. Dante Moore, though, could prove to be “the guy.” He’s considered the best quarterback prospect (if he declares) in the draft not named Fernando Mendoza.
Moore possesses great arm talent with the ability to get the ball out quickly. He can also get the ball over the top of defenses with touch and accuracy. Moore has the potential to be a star. If the Jets get the opportunity to draft him, they shouldn’t hesitate.
