Boston Celtics Star Makes Multiple Achievements In Historic Night

December 30, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Those watching the Boston Celtics closely over recent years are familiar with Jaylen Brown and his rise to stardom. He helped lead Boston to a finals appearance in 2022. In 2024, he also earned the “Larry Bird” Eastern Conference Finals MVP Award, in addition to the “Bill Russell” Finals MVP. Now, without his co-star Jayson Tatum, he is stepping up by carrying the scoring load for the Celtics. And in doing so, the Boston Celtics star has become the 12th leading scorer in Celtics history.

Boston Celtics Star Makes Multiple Achievements In Historic Night

Records Broken

Larry Bird is a legendary NBA player and the greatest scorer in the Boston Celtics’ history. He holds the franchise record for points in a playoff game (60) and is third in career points (21,791) for the Celtics organization. Another franchise record held by Bird is his nine consecutive games of scoring at least thirty points. Jaylen Brown has just tied this record while facing the Portland Trail Blazers on December 28th, 2025. Brown has a great opportunity to surpass this record on the road when facing the Utah Jazz on December 30th.

Brown began this streak on December 2nd by dropping 42 points in a win over the New York Knicks. During this stretch, the team has gotten six wins to only three losses. By dropping 37 points in his most recent appearance, Brown has surpassed the previous 12th leading scorer in Celtics history (Bill Sharman). This comes as no surprise when factoring in Browns career high average of nearly 30 points per game this season. Now the question is, “Can he move into the Celtics’ top-10 scorers before the end of the season?”

Browns evolution as a scoring, slashing wing player and ball-handler has the Celtics remaining in contention while awaiting the return of Jayson Tatum. Before he returns, Brown may have an opportunity to catch up to his co-star in career points. Currently, Brown sits at a career total of 12,289 points and is approximately 1,500 points behind Tatum. Tatum is already a top-10 scorer in Celtics history. To catch Tatum, he will need to continue this scoring output for another fifty games. However, if he continues at this pace for another 20 to 21 games, then he will overtake Jo Jo White (13,188) and Dave Cowens (13,192). Thus, entering the top-10 leading scorers in Celtics history.

Progress Towards Becoming An Elite Scorer

The two-way star has made a decisive leap this season by taking on the responsibility of being the team’s go-to offensive threat. Browns tenacity on both sides of the ball is a testament to his leadership and a credit to Boston’s player development system. He did not enter the league with this degree of offensive firepower. It was actually quite the opposite. Brown was drafted nearly a decade ago as a defensive specialist with the third overall pick. The pick came as a big surprise to Celtic fans and the league as a whole. However, it should not be surprising that Boston developed the offensive game of another ball-handling wing player.

Multiple players can look towards the Celtics as having developed their offensive games, not solely Jaylen Brown. Robert Williams III, Avery Bradley, Isaiah Thomas, and others performed stupendously in a Celtics uniform. Similar to Brown, each of these players had their best offensive season with the Celtics. Thomas even earned a top-5 finish in MVP voting in the 2016-2017 season. However, none of them made the leap that Brown has made this year.

The Boston Celtics star may even find himself with a better MVP finish than Thomas by the end of the season. Although this could be affected negatively should Tatum return from injury before the playoffs. One thing is clear: the Celtics are a definitive title contender as long as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum continue to be excellent co-leaders. And, they will remain as such for years to come.
