Current Dodgers Rumors, News, and Notes

December 18, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had their fair share of activity so far this winter. No doubt there will be more to come in the coming days and weeks. It definitely feels like there is another shoe to drop soon. While we wait for the next move. Here are the latest Dodgers notes as the offseason rolls on.

Could the Dodgers be in the market for an infielder to complement Mookie Betts and Co.?

The Latest Dodgers Notes as December Rolls On

Mookie is Out

Mookie Betts announced on Adin Ross’s Twitch stream that he will not be participating in the World Baseball Classic, representing Team USA. He has a scheduling conflict due to the best news possible. His wife is expecting their child to arrive in March. The four-time World Champion doesn’t want to be in Florida and leave his wife in California alone. The Gold Glove finalist at shortstop didn’t have the greatest offensive year in 2025. However, Betts knows how to win and is a great clubhouse presence. Mookie joked that if he played with his child on the way, “My wife would divorce me.” It might be a blessing for the Dodgers, as he has played a lot of baseball, and his body could use a break.

Staying Put

Betts isn’t the only one making the media rounds. Tyler Glasnow said in an interview this week that he will be in a Dodger uniform next year. “I talked to Andrew and our front office, and they were like, ‘No, you are not going anywhere,” Glasnow said, adding, “I trust them.” The right-hander has been the subject of rumors as part of a possible trade package to acquire Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. The rumors have persisted for the last couple of weeks. As for the Skubal rumors, Glasnow didn’t quell them. “I think that they’re relatively real.” Glasnow continued, “Just to pitch with him in the rotation would be a dream. I hope we get it done.”

Keeping Glasnow could work out for both sides. The Dodgers never seem to have enough pitching. When healthy, Glasnow is one of the best around. For example, the under-the-radar righty had an incredible ERA of 1.63 during the 2025 postseason. Los Angeles seems to have learned how to handle the innings load for the right-hander to maximize his effectiveness without compromising his health. Glasnow has two years left on his contract.

Switching Targets

There is no debate on whether or not the Dodgers need an outfielder. The question has always been which one? According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Los Angeles is now focused on St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar. For most of the offseason, the speculation has been focused on Brendan Donovan. Both players are on the trade block this winter, as the Cardinals are attempting to rebuild. Nootbaar would be a defensive upgrade in the outfield. In 2025, he hit for a .234 batting average, with 13 home runs and 48 runs batted in. The Dodgers seem to like the mentality of St. Louis players. They acquired Tommy Edman at the trade deadline in 2024, and it worked out, as it led to back-to-back World Series wins. Will history repeat itself? Or will they sign Kyle Tucker? We are one day closer to finding out.
