Afternoon Briefing: Snowy owls make unusually early visit to lakefront

Good afternoon, Chicago.

Border Patrol Cmdr. Gregory Bovino was recently deposed as part of a lawsuit over the use of force by immigration agents during Operation Midway Blitz, and transcripts of the proceedings show his questioning grew testy immediately.

Attorneys in the case sparred as Bovino at times evaded questions on the controversial conduct of his agents, who drew sharp criticism for confronting Chicagoans and using tear gas in city neighborhoods.

Snowy owls’ unusually early visit to Chicago lakefront could signal migratory boom

Two snowy owls have been spotted at Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary and a third briefly at Rainbow Beach, according to the Chicago Ornithological Society. Read more here.

Owners of Kee Firearms and Kee Construction found not guilty

A Will County judge ruled that two New Lenox business owners are not guilty of fraud charges filed by the Will County state’s attorney’s office in 2023, bringing part of a more than two-year battle to a close. Read more here.

Trump takes jabs at political opponents — including Gov. JB Pritzker — at annual turkey pardoning

President Donald Trump didn’t bring much holiday cheer today when bestowing ceremonial pardons on two Thanksgiving turkeys, dispensing more insults than goodwill at the traditional White House ritual. Trump said he had a joke prepared about Gov. JB Pritzker, but “I refuse to talk about the fact that he’s a fat slob. I don’t mention it.” Read more here.
